Town of Linn Minutes of Meeting for July 10, 2006

The meeting was called to order by Chairman Bollweg at 7:30 p.m. Roll call was taken with Chairman Bollweg. Supervisors Holden, Jones and Palmer were present. Supervisor Weiss and Clerk/Treasurer, Sue Polyock, were absent.

Supervisor Jones moved, seconded by Supervisor Palmer to approve minutes from previous meetings. The motion carried by unanimous vote. Supervisor Holden moved, seconded by Supervisor Jones to approve payment of the bills. The motion carried by unanimous vote. County Supervisor Polyock gave the county report indicating that the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Lakeland Health Care Center had been held. During public comments, John Groenboom of Oak Shores Subdivision commented on the fire numbers. Mr. Groenboom asked if there was a way in subdivisions on private roads if the signs could be placed on the main road and not in front of all of the homes as it was unsightly. He offered various suggestions regarding the sign placements. Chairman Bollweg advised Mr. Groenboom that an ordinance was drafted and would be discussed later in the meeting and that the matter would be discussed at other meetings. Allan Polyock then stated that he was in favor of the Town withdrawing from County zoning.

Supervisor Jones gave the plan commission report. She indicated that there was a meeting but no action was taken. Chairman Bollweg then gave the protective services committee report. Supervisor Jones moved, seconded by Supervisor Palmer to allow three Fire Department members to attend dive certification classes. The motion carried by unanimous vote. A discussion then occurred regarding the fire department generator bid. Chairman Bollweg indicated that the latest bid had increased by $10,000 and, therefore, he called for a motion to reject the bid. Supervisor Holden moved, seconded by Supervisor Jones to reject the bid. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

Supervisor Jones then gave the public parks committee report. Supervisor Jones cited the need for a “Toter” for the Town of Linn Park. Supervisor Jones then moved, seconded by Supervisor holden to have John’s Disposal place a “Toter” at the Town of Linn Park. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

Supervisor Palmer then gave the Harbor Commission report. He indicated that there is a need for new cribs at Robinson Hillside. It was suggested that he take this matter back to his committee and bring it back to the Town Board for later budget approval.

The matter of hiring a part-time police officer was the next item on the agenda. Supervisor Holden moved, seconded by Supervisor Palmer to hire Jonathan Albrecht as a part-time police officer. The motion carried by unanimous vote. The next matter before the Town Board was the opening of the 1999 Crown Victoria bid. Chairman Bollweg stated that there was only one bid of $507.00 by Ray Cheyka of Cheyka Motors, Inc. Initially, Supervisor Palmer moved, seconded by Supervisor Jones to accept the bid. A discussion then ensued between the Town Board members. Supervisor Palmer then revised his motion to explore other options for selling the vehicle. This motion was seconded by Supervisor Jones and carried by unanimous vote.

Supervisor Holden moved, seconded by Supervisor Jones to accept the first reading of the fire number ordinance. Supervisor Holden indicated that he would like to see some flexibility in the ordinance for property owners to place their respective fire numbers. The motion carried by unanimous vote.

Supervisor Holden moved to adjourn, seconded by Supervisor Jones. The motion was approved by unanimous vote. Meeting ended at approximately 8:00 p.m.
