Protective Services members present are Weiss, Glen Iverson and Roy White. Jim Bartos was absent. Also attending – Fire Chief Rasch and nine (9) people.
Chief Rasch gave an overview of the ambulance. It is 18 years old and has 50,000 miles on it. A complete rehab in 2004 of the ambulance was done in 2004 costing $16,000. The EMS has averaged about 115 calls/year for service.
Chief Rasch reported there were two (2) bids received. It will have a 2010 Chassis so it will not be subject to the ne emission requirements. There were two different trade-in values given, $6,000 and $10,000. Delivery time will be 4 to 5 months.
North Central Ambulance – Braun = $165,524 which includes $6,000 trade-in
Lifeline Ambulance = $156,226 which includes $10,000 trade-in
The only additional money needed would be to transfer radios which would be about $1,500 to $2,000.
There were comments and questions from Iverson, White, Holden and Allis.
Audience Comments:
John Trossen – why not keep old ambulance so Town will have two (2)
Allan Polyock – was in favor of completely refurbishing rig again possibly to get ten (10) more years service from it. He is not ready to jump into a new rig. Linn doesn’t usually transport on rescue calls.
Craig DeYoung – The age and not the miles is the problem. Completely rewire if that is the problem. The Town will double all the costs with maintaining a diesel engine vs. a gas engine.
Polyock stated the new gas engines are wonderful.
The initial cost difference between gas and diesel is $4,700.
Protective Services: Glen Iverson/Roy White motion to purchase the Lifeline ambulance truck for $156,226. All committee members present affirmative.
Town Board: Weiss/Allis motion to purchase the Lifeline Ambulance for $156,226 plus $1,000 for switching radios. Carried unanimously.
White/Iverson motion to adjourn. Meeting adjourned at 5:40 pm.
