- Ground Water and Well Testing. There are several places that do testing which are; Burlington lab, Stevens Point and Madison . GLEA is possibly going to do well testing at Geneva Beach (with the property owners paying for it) maybe next spring. That could be like a pilot program. The logistics are the problem because the sample needs to be in the lab within 24 hours. The samples would all be taken the same day with the GLEA receiving them within 6 hours. The commissioners discussed well testing and if they should get involved and what approach they should take. J. Livingston said they could address it in the newsletter. The state has kits available for around 17.50 plus shipping. Ted said the seasonal home owners would be the ones he was most concerned about. They shut their wells down for months and they should be purged and test the supply when started back up each year. The GLEA tested several hundred wells years ago and Ted has a hard copy of the database for comparison. T. Peters asked the commissioners if they thought the district should get involved in this type of service. J. Livingston said making the information available to the property owners would be a good idea. T. Peters suggested a PR blitz on ground water, wells, maintenance of their systems, testing, if there is a big enough response we could coordinate it. To make the resource available would be easy and the commissioners agreed that it might be something they would like to do.
T. Peters passed out his the beach testing information showing how the contamination rises in the summer. Ted showed the commissioners on the report how the creek at Robinson Hillside contamination counts were way up.
All agreed a PR campaign would be the 1 st thing to do. The web page could also be used. T. Peters said he would write something up in the next few weeks for a newsletter.
- Commissioners Report . T. Peters passed out a POWTS Management Sheet. Clarification of the Maintenance program. It is the next step toward the State’s mandatory maintenance of POWTS. T. Peters said the commissioners should support the State in this objective.
J. Livingston asked if anyone of the commissioners had the term list. They discussed it and Jim will bring his sheet next meeting.
John Wednt’s failed mound system was discussed. It is being rebuilt.
