November 2007
Dear Linn Sanitary District Resident
The Linn Sanitary District (LSD) has been in discussion with the Town of Geneva about the possibility of jointly expanding sewer service areas on the north shore of Geneva Lake and the south shore of Lake Como. A joint Wastewater Facilities Plan was initiated about a year ago and is now completed.
A joint informational meeting on the joint Wastewater Facilities Plan is scheduled for Saturday December 8, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Woods School to discuss the Plan and its recommendations. Woods School is located on the SW corner of Highway 50 and Snake Road in the Town of Geneva.
The LSD commissioners have identified the area included in the study as lands in Linn that are on the north shore between Chapin Road and the Village of Williams Bay. With the need for alternatives for on-site systems, as identified in our inspection program, and with present expansion planning being done at the wastewater treatment plant, the LSD commissioners feel now is the time to secure plant access and capacity.
Your property is in an area in the Town of Linn that has been identified for inclusion in this planning process. This planning process does not mean that all of this area will be sewered. It takes a preliminary look at some of the physical possibilities, their costs and environmental impacts and recommends a course of action.
Several options are being considered in collecting and delivering the wastewater to the plant. The district’s engineers have prepared some cost estimates for some of the options addressing wastewater management for the next twenty years. These costs are very preliminary and allow for an idea of approximate and relative wastewater management costs. They involve running the force main down Highway 50 east to the lift station at the gates of Geneva National.

** - Special Assessment Cost per Home if Full Payment Made Up-Front: $24,000Any construction cost to the District for a sanitary sewer system would be financed by the District with low interest loans over 20 years. As a general rule, as a customer, you would be billed annually for construction cost over 20 years via a special charge on your tax bill. Alternatively, a lump sum could be paid by the homeowner up-front (in the above scenario this charge would be approximately $24,000 plus approximately $4,400 for individual hook up). Operation and maintenance costs would be charged via quarterly billings. Individual costs for private plumbing adaptations (i.e. laterals, pumps, ect.) would be the responsibility of each individual party.
We would like to discuss in more detail this whole process and what it means to you, the Linn Sanitary District, the Town of Linn and Geneva Lake. We would also like to know your feelings and comments on this matter. If you can not make the December 8 th meeting please feel free to write or call the Linn Sanitary District with any questions or concerns. Written comments will be accepted up to a month after the meeting.
Sincerely,
Theodore W. Peters, President
Tess Adams, Commissioner
Jim Livingston, Commissioner
